For EPL betting in Australia, London's clock sets the timetable: you bet on English Premier League matches and season-long markets with a bookmaker licensed in Australia, and online betting on each match closes at its kick-off. The default 3 pm Saturday kick-off in London falls between midnight and 2 am Sunday in Sydney, depending on the date, so line-ups and late team news arrive overnight.
The 2026/27 season runs from Friday 21 August 2026 to a final round on Sunday 30 May 2027, when every match kicks off at the same time. Twenty clubs play 38 matches each, home and away (Premier League, checked October 2026). Soccer betting covers the markets every league shares.
Premier League kick-off times in Australian time
The Premier League publishes most weekend matches at 3 pm Saturday, London time, and midweek rounds usually on or around 8 pm on a Tuesday or Wednesday. UK broadcasters then move chosen matches into slots from 8 pm Friday to 8 pm Monday; the Saturday 3 pm slot is not broadcast live in the UK. The league aims to confirm those moves about six weeks ahead before January and five weeks ahead from January (Premier League, 19 June 2026). Matches can also move around clubs' European and FA Cup fixtures.
The gap to London changes during the season. The UK and the south-eastern states change their clocks on different dates, while Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not change them at all. Using the 2026/27 dates from GOV.UK and the NSW Government:
| Dates in the 2026/27 season | Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart | Brisbane | Perth |
|---|---|---|---|
| 21 August to 3 October 2026 | 9 hours ahead of London | 9 hours ahead | 7 hours ahead |
| 4 to 24 October 2026 | 10 hours ahead | 9 hours ahead | 7 hours ahead |
| 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027 | 11 hours ahead | 10 hours ahead | 8 hours ahead |
| 28 March to 3 April 2027 | 10 hours ahead | 9 hours ahead | 7 hours ahead |
| 4 April to 30 May 2027 | 9 hours ahead | 9 hours ahead | 7 hours ahead |
Sydney's clocks change at 2 am on Sunday 4 October 2026 and 3 am on Sunday 4 April 2027, which in both cases is 5 pm Saturday in London. A London kick-off from 5 pm on Saturday 3 October or Saturday 3 April therefore takes the next row's gap: 5:30 pm London on 3 April 2027 is 2:30 am Sunday in Sydney.
In Adelaide, take half an hour off the Sydney time. The London times the league names convert to Sydney and Melbourne time like this:
| London kick-off | 21 Aug to 3 Oct, and 4 Apr to 30 May | 4 to 24 Oct, and 28 Mar to 3 Apr | 25 Oct to 27 Mar |
|---|---|---|---|
| Friday 8 pm | Saturday 5 am | Saturday 6 am | Saturday 7 am |
| Saturday 3 pm | Sunday 12 am (midnight) | Sunday 1 am | Sunday 2 am |
| Monday 8 pm | Tuesday 5 am | Tuesday 6 am | Tuesday 7 am |
| Tuesday or Wednesday 8 pm | Wednesday or Thursday 5 am | Wednesday or Thursday 6 am | Wednesday or Thursday 7 am |
Brisbane matches Sydney in the first column and runs an hour earlier in the other two. Any other London time moves by the same 9, 10 or 11 hours: a 12:30 pm Saturday kick-off, for example, is 9:30 pm, 10:30 pm or 11:30 pm Saturday in Sydney across the three columns. Work from the match date, not today's: a 3 pm London kick-off on Saturday 24 October 2026 is 1 am in Sydney, and the same slot a week later is 2 am.
When EPL team news lands in Australia
From the 2024/25 season, the Premier League said, starting line-ups would be released about 75 minutes before kick-off, first on its app and website (Premier League, 15 August 2024). For a 3 pm Saturday match between late October and late March, that is 12:45 am Sunday in Sydney and Melbourne, 11:45 pm Saturday in Brisbane and 9:45 pm in Perth.
A price you take in the Australian evening is taken without the line-up, and possibly before the last fitness news from either club. That is the overnight lag: the price can move a long way while you sleep, in either direction.
Example: Illustrative prices, not a real match. You take $2.30 on the home side at 8 pm Saturday in Sydney, and after the 12:45 am line-up benches its main striker the price drifts to $2.55 by kick-off. A win still pays $230 per $100, but your price is 1 - 2.30 / 2.55 = 9.8% shorter than that closing price. Had it firmed to $2.10 instead, yours would be 2.30 / 2.10 - 1 = 9.5% longer.
Comparing the price you took with the last price before kick-off is the measure called closing line value. Betting before the line-up means carrying the team news risk, and waiting for it means betting in the small hours.
EPL betting markets: match, goals and players
Premier League matches carry the full set of soccer markets, and almost all of them settle on normal time, stoppage time included. Under clause 5.2.7.3 of the NSW Bookmaker Declared Betting Events Betting Rules, a soccer result is taken at the end of normal time unless agreed otherwise. A league match can end level, since the Premier League gives each side a point for a draw, so the draw is a live result in every game.
| Market | The question it asks | Explained in |
|---|---|---|
| Match result (1X2) | Home, draw or away | 1X2 betting |
| Draw no bet and handicap lines | The result with a refund on a draw, or with a goal start | Draw no bet, Asian handicap |
| Total goals | How many goals both sides score, such as over or under 2.5 | Over/under goals |
| Both teams to score | Whether each side finds the net at least once | Both teams to score |
| Goalscorer | Whether a player scores at any time, first or last | Anytime goalscorer |
| Corners and cards | How many corners or bookings, or who is booked | Corners and cards |
Player markets lean on the line-up more than any other, so they carry most of the overnight lag. A player who is named but does not take the field can leave your bet refunded or lost, depending on the bookmaker's terms, and player did not play rules sets out the rule types.
Premier League futures: title, top four and relegation
Futures, also called outrights, settle on the final table. The Premier League awards three points for a win and one for a draw, and relegates the bottom three. Clubs level on points are separated by goal difference, then goals scored, head-to-head record and away goals in head-to-head matches (Premier League, 18 August 2026).
| Market | Your club has to | Places paid | A margin-free market adds up to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title | finish first | 1 | 100% |
| Top four | finish first to fourth | 4 | 400% |
| Relegation | finish 18th, 19th or 20th | 3 | 300% |
A top four bet settles on the club's final position, not on which European competition it ends up in, so read the market's wording rather than the qualification rules.
To check a market that pays several places, divide the total of its implied chances by the number of places. Say the 20 relegation prices add up to 342% (illustrative): 342 / 300 = 1.14, an overround of 14%. A club at $2.50 implies 1 / 2.50 = 40.0%. Scaled to a 300% market, that is 40.0% x 300 / 342 = 35.1%, a fair price of 1 / 0.351 = $2.85.
Example: Illustrative price. Before the opening round you put $50 on Team A to win the title at $9.00. If it wins, you are paid $50 x 9.00 = $450 after the final round, about 40 weeks later, and the $50 is out of your account until then.
Under the NSW rules, bets settle on the official positions as the governing body decides them, and a later change does not alter the result (clause 5.1.11). So under that rule book, a points penalty imposed after the final table is declared would not resettle a relegation bet. Online bookmakers set their own terms on this, and futures betting covers the wider maths.
Online EPL betting closes at kick-off
The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 defines an in-play betting service as one taking bets on a sporting event after it has begun (s 10B). Online betting on sport is lawful only to the extent it is not in-play (s 8A(3)), and only from a provider licensed under an Australian state or territory law (s 15AA). So online betting on an EPL match closes at kick-off, at or after midnight on the east coast for the Saturday 3 pm slot.
Offshore sites that take bets during a match are offering a service that is illegal to provide to people in Australia, and their customers lose Australian protections. Offshore betting sites covers the risks, and in-play betting in Australia sets out the law in more detail.
How to bet on the EPL from Australia
- Check the provider on ACMA's register and use an account in your own name; checking a bookmaker shows how.
- Set a deposit limit at each bookmaker before you bet. Under the National Consumer Protection Framework, providers must offer one; a decrease applies at once and an increase only after 7 days.
- Convert the London kick-off with the tables above, and note when the line-up lands.
- Pick the market that matches your view: the result, the goals, a player or the season.
- Compare prices across bookmakers and add up the implied chances to see the margin.
- Bet before kick-off, because online betting closes when the match starts.
Mistakes that cost money on EPL bets
| Mistake | What it costs |
|---|---|
| Using the October time gap after 25 October | You expect the line-up at 11:45 pm and kick-off at 1 am in Sydney, when they come at 12:45 am and 2 am |
| Betting the evening before without allowing for team news | In the example, a price 9.8% shorter than where the market finished |
| Treating top four as European qualification | The bet settles on first to fourth place, whatever the European places turn out to be |
| Ignoring the margin on futures | A 342% relegation book carries 14% over a fair 300% |
Comparing EPL prices across bookmakers
B337's Terminal groups soccer games under their league. Open a game and each bookmaker's head to head, line and total prices run in columns, with the best available price on each selection picked out. Price history (flucs) shows how a price moved overnight.
A price on the board is shown as at the time displayed, so confirm it with your bookmaker before you bet. A free account opens a limited view of the Terminal with live odds. For free and confidential support call 1800 858 858 or visit gamblinghelponline.org.au.
Risk: Betting involves risk. Team news can move a price after your bet is on, a bet placed in the small hours is still money you need to be able to afford to lose, and there is no guarantee of profit. See responsible gambling for limits and support.
