Australian bookmakers are owned through a licence holder named on ACMA's register and often a parent group above it: Sportsbet, for example, was reported in June 2026 as owned by Flutter Entertainment plc. MIXI Australia took majority control of PointsBet in September 2025, as reported. On the register's 7 September 2026 update, Ladbrokes and Neds share one licence holder, Entain Group Pty Ltd, Betfair and CrownBet share Betfair Pty Ltd, and bet365's licence holder is Hillside (Australia New Media) Pty Ltd.
The register stops at the licence holder, the company or person named against each brand. Who owns that company comes from company announcements and trade reports, so every parent group below is attributed and dated, and the picture moves: several of these brands have changed hands or relaunched since 2024. Most of them are corporate bookmakers, taking bets online and by phone.
Brands, licence holders and licensing authorities, as at October 2026
From ACMA's register as last updated on 7 September 2026, checked October 2026. "NT" is the NT Wagering Commission, which the register lists under an older name.
| Trading name | Licence holder | Licensing authority |
|---|---|---|
| Sportsbet | Sportsbet Pty Ltd | NT |
| Ladbrokes | Entain Group Pty Ltd | NT |
| Neds | Entain Group Pty Ltd | NT |
| PointsBet | Pointsbet Australia Pty Ltd | NT |
| bet365 | Hillside (Australia New Media) Pty Ltd | NT |
| Unibet | Betchoice Corporation Pty Ltd | NT |
| betr | Betr Entertainment Aus Pty Ltd | Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission |
| Bet Right | IRPSX Pty Ltd | NT |
| Infomarket | IRPSX Pty Ltd | NT |
| Dabble | Dabble Sports Pty Ltd | NT |
| Palmerbet | Palmer Bookmaking Pty Ltd | Liquor & Gaming NSW |
| Picklebet | Puntaa Pty Ltd | NT |
| Betfair | Betfair Pty Ltd | NT |
| CrownBet | Betfair Pty Ltd | NT |
| TabTouch | Racing and Wagering Western Australia | WA Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety |
| Seven TAB rows | One company per state or territory outside WA (below) | The body in that state or territory |
A row says who holds the licence for a brand and which authority issued it. It is not a rating of the brand, and rows change between updates, so check the register's own date before you rely on one.
The parent groups behind the licence holders, as reported
These lines come from company announcements and trade reports, not from a regulator, and each carries the date of the report it rests on.
| Licence holder | Parent group, as reported | Reported |
|---|---|---|
| Sportsbet Pty Ltd | Flutter Entertainment plc | June 2026 |
| Pointsbet Australia Pty Ltd | PointsBet Holdings Limited, majority-owned by MIXI Australia, part of Japan's MIXI group, with about 66.4% of the shares when its takeover offer closed | September 2025 |
| Betchoice Corporation Pty Ltd (Unibet) | Kindred Group, which La Francaise des Jeux (FDJ) acquired | October 2024 |
| Betfair Pty Ltd (Betfair, CrownBet) | Crown Resorts, which Blackstone acquired in 2022 | March 2026 |
| Betr Entertainment Aus Pty Ltd (betr) | betr Entertainment Limited, formerly BlueBet Holdings Ltd, formed by the 2024 merger of BlueBet and Betr | August 2025 |
For Entain Group Pty Ltd (Ladbrokes, Neds) and Hillside (Australia New Media) Pty Ltd (bet365), use the steps at the end to check the parent yourself. Betfair is the one that catches people out. As reported in March 2026, Betfair Pty Ltd belongs to Crown Resorts and uses the Betfair exchange product under licence from a Flutter company, so Flutter's link to Betfair in Australia is a licence, not ownership.
Brands that share a licence holder
Among the brands above, three pairs share a licence holder on the 7 September 2026 update:
- Ladbrokes and Neds, both Entain Group Pty Ltd, licensing authority the NT Wagering Commission.
- Betfair and CrownBet, both Betfair Pty Ltd. CrownBet trades again: Betfair Pty Ltd relaunched it as a fixed-odds brand in early 2026, as reported.
- Bet Right and Infomarket, both IRPSX Pty Ltd.
The TAB companies and TABtouch
The TAB brand is a set of state companies, not one licence. The register's seven TAB rows, one for each state and territory outside WA, all point to the same TAB website. TAB Limited, Tabcorp Vic Pty Ltd and Tabcorp ACT Pty Ltd hold the NSW, Victorian and ACT rows, and four UBET companies hold Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the NT. The register does not say who owns the four UBET companies. They trade under the shared TAB brand, which points to the Tabcorp group after its 2017 merger with Tatts, but treat that as an inference, and see who owns the TAB for the group itself.
Western Australia is the exception. Its TAB brand, TABtouch in WA, is run by Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA), not Tabcorp. On 7 November 2022 the WA Government ended its process to sell the WA TAB and said RWWA would continue to operate it.
One licence holder, many trading names
Sharing a licence holder is common across the register. On the same update, 17 of its 162 licence holders hold more than one trading name. One holds 21, another 10, two hold 5 each, one holds 4, five hold 3 and seven hold 2, with Entain Group Pty Ltd, Betfair Pty Ltd and IRPSX Pty Ltd among those with two. Together those 17 account for 74 of the register's 219 trading names, and the other 145 licence holders hold one each.
The register shows who holds each licence. It does not name the company that supplies a brand's betting platform or its prices, so a shared licence holder proves nothing about shared prices, and different licence holders do not rule out a shared platform. White label bookmakers explains in general terms how brands on one platform work.
Changes of control since 2017
| When | Change |
|---|---|
| 13 December 2017 | Tabcorp's merger with Tatts Group takes effect, after the Australian Competition Tribunal authorised it on 22 November 2017 |
| 2020 | BetEasy's customers move to Sportsbet after Flutter merges with The Stars Group, and BetEasy stops trading |
| 1 June 2022 | Tabcorp demerges The Lottery Corporation, the implementation date in the ATO's class ruling CR 2022/58 |
| 2022 | Blackstone acquires Crown Resorts, the owner of Betfair Pty Ltd |
| 7 November 2022 | The WA Government ends its process to sell the WA TAB, and RWWA keeps running it |
| 2024 | BlueBet and Betr merge, forming the business now called betr Entertainment Limited |
| October 2024 | La Francaise des Jeux (FDJ) acquires Kindred Group, the parent of Unibet's licence holder |
| 2025 | The betr group buys TopSport, which the register now lists as not currently operational |
| September 2025 | MIXI Australia's takeover offer for PointsBet Holdings closes with majority control |
| Early 2026 | Betfair Pty Ltd relaunches CrownBet as a fixed-odds brand |
Apart from the WA Government's statement and the ATO ruling, these lines are as reported in company announcements and trade news.
What to ask a bookmaker about its owner
The register cannot tell you how two brands with one owner treat your account, and a parent-company line cannot either. Ask each bookmaker, or find the answer in its terms:
- Which company do the terms and the privacy policy name, and is it the licence holder on ACMA's register?
- Are prices and promotions set brand by brand, or for the whole group?
- Under the terms, can a limit or closure at one brand be applied at a sister brand?
- Does the privacy policy let brands in the same group share your details?
- If the brand is sold, merged or closed, what happens to your account, balance and open bets?
A BetStop registration does not depend on any of this: it covers every online and phone wagering provider licensed in Australia.
The answers differ between groups and change over time, so be wary of second-hand claims either way. How bookmakers work explains why prices and limits differ from one brand to the next.
How to check who owns a bookmaker yourself
- Find the trading name on ACMA's register and note its licence holder, its licensing authority and the register's "Last updated" date. A brand that is missing should not be taking online or phone bets from people in Australia: checking a bookmaker is licensed covers that test, and what a listed bookmaker must offer you covers the account rules that follow.
- Check the licensing authority's own list where it keeps one. The NT Wagering Commission publishes a list of licensed wagering operators.
- Search the licence holder's name on ABN Lookup for its ABN, entity type and status.
- For the parent, read the stock exchange announcements of the licence holder's parent company, where it is listed, and note the date of whatever you find. A bookmaker's own website or marketing is not a source for who owns it.
Comparing brands whoever owns them
Ownership does not settle which brand has the better price on a given runner or team, so compare the prices themselves. Across racing and sports, the Terminal shows 40+ bookmakers' prices column by column, with Betfair back and lay at the side and the price history behind each one. What you see is the price as at the time shown, read on a repeating cycle, so check it in your bookmaker account before you bet. A free account opens a limited view of the Terminal with live odds, and the bookmakers B337 works with are listed separately. Bookmaker names are trade marks of their owners. B337 is not affiliated with them.
Risk: Betting involves risk. Who owns a bookmaker says nothing about whether a price is good value, any bet can lose, and there is no guarantee of profit. See responsible gambling for limits and support.
