Outside Western Australia, Tabcorp runs the TAB brand (as at October 2026) through seven state licence holders on ACMA's register, four of them UBET companies that are counted in the group from the shared brand, as reported. Its parent, Tabcorp Holdings Limited, is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. In Western Australia the TAB is TABtouch, which Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) runs instead.
So the TAB is no longer government owned in most of the country, although it began as government boards, as what TAB stands for explains. Betting accounts in Australia covers the rules a TAB account shares with every other.
The TAB licence holders on ACMA's register
ACMA's register, as last updated on 7 September 2026, lists seven TAB rows outside WA, all with the same TAB website, plus WA's own row:
| Where | Licence holder on the register | Licensing authority on the register |
|---|---|---|
| NSW | TAB Limited | Liquor & Gaming NSW |
| Victoria | Tabcorp Vic Pty Ltd | Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission |
| ACT | Tabcorp ACT Pty Ltd | ACT Gambling & Racing Commission |
| Queensland | UBET QLD Limited | Queensland Office of Liquor & Gaming Regulation |
| South Australia | UBET SA Pty Ltd | Consumer and Business Services, South Australia |
| Tasmania | UBET Tas Pty Ltd | Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission |
| Northern Territory | UBET NT Pty Ltd | NT Director-General of Licensing |
| Western Australia | Racing and Wagering Western Australia (TabTouch) | WA Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety |
Two rows carry the Tabcorp name, and Racing NSW's reference manual (last updated March 2025) names Tabcorp as the business that conducts totalisator betting in NSW. The four UBET companies are the least documented link: the register names them but not their owner. They are counted in the group because of their shared brand and website, and Tabcorp's merger with Tatts Group, which took effect on 13 December 2017, as reported at the time.
The state licences behind the brand
- NSW: TAB Limited is licensed under the Totalizator Act 1997 to conduct totalizator and fixed-odds wagering, and it is the exclusive provider of off-course retail betting in NSW (Liquor & Gaming NSW, checked October 2026).
- Victoria: a 20-year wagering and betting licence awarded to Tabcorp Wagering (VIC) Pty Ltd in December 2023 came into effect in August 2024, covering racing, sports and other approved events (VGCCC, page updated 24 February 2026). The register row names Tabcorp Vic Pty Ltd.
- Queensland: UBET QLD Limited is the exclusive licence holder for race and sports wagering, and new applications cannot be considered until 30 June 2044 (Business Queensland, updated 31 March 2026).
Tabcorp has moved its tote pools to a single national pool (reported from October 2026). The national tote pool has its own entry, and tote betting shows how a pool pays.
Tabcorp's listing, divisions and 2022 demerger
The ATO's class ruling on Tabcorp's 2022 demerger records that Tabcorp Holdings Limited was incorporated on 13 April 1994 and listed on the ASX on 15 August 1994. Before the demerger it ran three divisions:
| Division | What the ATO's ruling says it covered | After 1 June 2022 |
|---|---|---|
| Wagering and Media | Betting through venues and online under the TAB brand, and racing broadcasts under the Sky brand | Kept by Tabcorp |
| Lotteries and Keno | Lotteries in every jurisdiction except WA, and keno in NSW, Victoria, Queensland and the ACT | Moved to The Lottery Corporation |
| Gaming Services | Monitoring and servicing of electronic gaming machines and related terminals | Kept by Tabcorp |
On the betting side, then, Tabcorp's brand is TAB, and the seven register rows above all point to the same TAB website. RWWA, by contrast, is a body corporate established by the Racing and Wagering Western Australia Act 2003, and on 7 November 2022 the WA Government called off its market process to sell the WA TAB. TABtouch covers the WA side, who owns Australian bookmakers the other groups, and corporate bookmaker how the TAB differs from the online corporates.
Comparing TAB prices with other bookmakers
Knowing who runs the TAB says nothing about whether its fixed price on a given runner is the longest on offer. The Terminal compares prices from 40+ bookmakers across racing and sports, with Betfair back and lay beside them. It reads them on a repeating cycle, so confirm a price with your bookmaker before you bet. A free account opens a limited view of the Terminal with live odds. Bookmaker names are trade marks of their owners. B337 is not affiliated with them.
Risk: Betting involves risk. Tote and fixed-odds bets with the TAB can lose like any other bet, and there is no guarantee of profit. See responsible gambling for limits and support.
